It seems everyone has their own recipe for garam masala and I'm no different. I basically got mine from Madhur Jaffrey and her fabulous book Indian Cookery (it's quite an old book).
The recipe below will make around 3 tablespoons.
The Ingredients
- 1 tbsp cardamon seeds
- 2 inch tick of cinnamon
- 1 tsp black (or normal) cumin seeds
- 1 tsp whole cloves
- 1 tsp black peppercorns
- ¼ of a nutmeg (about ½ tsp of ground nutmeg)
The Recipe
- Put all the ingredients into a coffee grinder or a spice grinder and blitz for just under a minut or until everything is well ground and blended.
Store in an airtight container well away from direct sunlight.
